Aerohive HiveManager

Overview:

HiveManager is an out-of-band Network Management System (NMS) for simple policy configuration, firmware upgrades, and monitoring of up to thousands of HiveAPs.

The Aerohive WLAN system combines an Enterprise-class access point with a suite of cooperative control protocols and functions to provide all of the benefi ts of a controller-based WLAN solution, but without requiring a controller or an overlay network. A hive of HiveAPs is able to operate independently; however, to provide for global policy management and centralized confi guration and monitoring of many HiveAPs, HiveManager provides a centralized management instance for the entire wireless network. HiveManager lowers operating costs by speeding deployment, confi guration, and monitoring of the wireless network. The HiveAPs are fully functional even when disconnected from the HiveManager.

HiveManager also offers real-time topology, performance, and client information to simplify troubleshooting, capacity planning, and security remediation. Because it is not essential to the flow of traffic, losing connectivity to HiveManager will not affect any control or data forwarding features of your Aerohive WLAN. There is no pre-staging or configuration necessary to connect HiveAPs in any location to their HiveManager, which makes it ideal for distributed deployments.

HiveManager is available in three different forms:

• Software-as-a-Service offering in the cloud
• A VMware virtual appliance
• 1U or 2U rack-mountable appliance

All of the HiveManager platforms support two modes: Express Mode, which is a simplified version of the interface, designed to make initial deployment and training simple and quick; and, Enterprise Mode, which includes an extensive object-based management system and full feature support. Customers can very easily extend an Express Mode deployment to Enterprise Mode at any point when additional features or flexibility are required.

HiveManager is accessible via a web browser on Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X, providing an application-like AJAX interface with which to access the device. With advanced features like zero-confi guration deployment and virtual HiveManagers, HiveManager offers market-leading features, segmentation, and ease of use.
